Revenge in Paradise Paradise Series Volume 6 Deborah Brown 9780990316640 Books
Some have referred to as Deborah Brown’s novels as cozy mysteries, but “Revenge in Paradise” is arguably the least cozy of the Paradise books thus far. The reader is given a mystery that appears at first to be an open and shut case, but it quickly becomes something more. While it is still easy to read in one or two sittings, there is also quite a bit of action and suspense in this installment of the series, engaging the reader to ensure that they will want to push through each page to see what happens next. Those who have enjoyed other books in the series may be happy to see this book shaking things up just a bit, especially if they prefer the character of Fab over Madison. While both characters certainly get several moments in which to shine, Fab takes point for a decent portion of the mystery. This is because the murder weapons used to beat a man to death happen to belong to Madison, and she soon finds herself locked up for the crime. Fab is forced to help clear her best friend’s name, and the two of them must race to figure out the true identity of the killer.
Brown still delivers on the basics that her readers have come to expect from her. There is a fair bit of romance, and naturally a large helping of light-hearted humor. Since this book is over one hundred pages longer than the last installment in the series, readers can rest assured that these factors will all be present in the midst of one of the better mysteries that Brown has written. This book is a true joy, and those who enjoy their light-hearted mystery novels may even find themselves pulling this one out for another read in the future.

Revenge in Paradise Paradise Series Volume 6 Deborah Brown 9780990316640 Books Reviews
As this series is making quite clear, Madison and Fab once again are getting into loads of trouble and finding increasingly unbelievable ways to escape the noose. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of these Deborah Brown books, but I can't deny that there is a pattern of sorts that has formed, and I hope that Brown breaks out of the....habit (I can't call it a rut, as it is still enjoyable). I feel that the last three books have all revolved around an unexplained murder that somehow makes Fab or Madison a suspect. Even in the longest-running detective series, the victims aren't connected to the sleuths that often; usually, the protagonists become involved in the lives of new characters and expand their network of contact within the environment of the book. I feel as though these characters are becoming a bit repetitive, and I'd like to see Brown expand the universe a bit in future books.
That all being said, sexy, strong-willed sleuths remain a heck of a lot of fun to read about, and between the clever quips and the occasionally lavish descriptive passages, there is some top-quality writing and an acceptably intriguing plot. I don't think is the strongest one in the series, which is why I only gave it four stars, but I will definitely be checking out #7, as the author does have a talent streak and a penchant for creating unique characters - I just want her to do more of that!
This is the sixth Paradise novel by Deborah Brown, and it’s the third I’ve read, and I’m enjoying them more and more. Set in a humid (and apparently crime ridden) Florida beach town, we follow the adventures of Madison Westin, bar and motel owner, and trouble magnet. She’s a really appealing protagonist – feisty, happily sexual, and loyal to a fault. Madison lives with her best friend, Fab, and their two boyfriends (Creole and Didier) are in out of the house and adding to the adventures, too. Brown likes interesting characters and I love that she continues to develop them with each novel. Brown’s writing has developed, too, and the story clips along at a fast pace with plenty of atmosphere along the way – after reading three of these books, I feel like I could drive around Madison’s town and actually run into the characters.
In Revenge in Paradise, Madison ends up wrongly accused of a crime, and after getting bailed out of jail, all hell breaks loose. Creole (an under-cover cop), comes in handy in the search to unravel what is going on, and we have the addition of Jami, a gardener at one of Madison’s properties, this time, too. These books aren’t John LeCarre style thrillers – instead they’re a breezy gas with sex, suspense, and thrills thrown in, and with the Florida setting, great to curl up with in the northern winter in order to dream of warmer, twistier climes.
Life with Madison is anything but boring. She comes back from a mini-vacation with her boyfriend/cousin Creole and finds her bar Jake's being raided and her cigar-smoking mom and best friend Fab being arrested for having illegal gambling in the back of the bar. Later she gets a phone call from the run-down trailer park that she has inherited letting her know a dead body has been found. With a dead body, body parts, arrests and kidnapping what else could go wrong?
Brown has a way of writing an extremely funny storyline that just doesn't quit along with believable unforgettable characters. I love Madison with her Nancy Drew-like persona that gets her nothing but trouble and gun-wielding Fab that helps her get into that trouble. Creole who is Madison's boyfriend who is an undercover detective that even the cops believe is a drug dealer and Didier the handsome model who is Fab's boyfriend who have their hands full trying to keep the girls out of trouble. Who could forget the old man professor Crum who has a thing for the ladies and runs around in just boxer shorts and boots? Add Brick that sends our ladies on deliveries, pickups and other assorted questionable jobs that they know are just going to get them into even more trouble but take the jobs anyway. As well as cops both on their side and others who want to lock Madison and Fab up and throw away the key. Hilariously funny doesn't even describe the storyline that left me in stitches as the ladies go from one madcap adventure to another. So delightfully entertaining this is one story not to be missed!
