The Bride edition by S Doyle Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

This is my first book by S. Doyle and I am looking forward to reading more of the author. It is the story of Ellie and Jake. When Ellie becomes an orphan at age 16, she marries the ranch foreman and her friend Jake. So she and the ranch will be safe. It can be very tricky to write about such a sensitive subject, but S. Doyle pulls it off. Ellie is a normal teenager, but has to grow up fast and learn about what it takes to manage a ranch. She doesn’t complain about it, but just does it. She is a wonderful strong character. Jake acts more like a parent or older brother but both can not deny their growing feelings. It is the first part of a three parts series. I can’t wait to read the other parts.

This story of Jake, the ranch hand, friend from birth, coming to the rescue of orphan Ellie is engaging and heartwarming. I detest novels in “parts.” However, this work was worth the extra effort to hear the whole story.
4.5 stars

Well what can I say? This book was so cute and I loved Ellie and Jake. They had to take drastic measures to keep Ellie around and for a while it worked well. However, Ellie and Jake are growing and they are doing it together which makes things a little messy.

I loved it I couldn't wait to see the connection between Ellie and Jake grow and not in a creepy way either, but in a deep meaningful way. Ellie was not the one to be bossed around, she has her own opinions and thoughts and will do what is necessary to keep her family's business alive. Jake, who is also an orphan like Ellie, is very home oriented and willing to do anything to keep the small family he has together.

MINOR CLIFFHANGER, I can't wait to see what happens next!!!
This book was so incredibly addicting. The story between Jake and Ellie is so simple and heartfelt that with each new page we watched as these two characters grew and learned from each other. It was emotional and filled with humor. when things started to get tipped to the wrong side of the scale the story seemed to tilt back to even out between these two. But just when you're comfy with things a major event happens and everything is shifted out of whack.

Loved the story...the characters...the setting...everything!
This is a great series! It's told in first person, alternating between the heroine Ellie's POV and the hero Jake's POV. Ellie is in an untenable situation - her dad dies and the law is ridiculous. She can go into foster care for less than 2 years until she's 18 or she can get married. So her dad's foreman, Jake, marries her. It's as weird and uncomfortable as you'd think. But Ellie is really mature and grows up even faster. She has until her 18th birthday to learn everything she can about ranching from Jake so she can do it on her own. They both make mistakes but don't miss the next 2 installments - they are worth the wait!

This is a tough topic, and Jake is never once creepy. It was super well-written. I've reread it twice!
Nice, clean story. Obviously the start of a series, but that is mentioned right from the start. No getting mad about something that is not a surprise. It says right on the blurb, book one of a three book series.

Ellie is a sweet high school girl, from a very small town. Once made an orphan, she has limited choices. Run away until she is 18, go away to another town to live with a foster family, or get married to her father's only full time employee, Jake. They run (ran) the family ranch together. Jake can marry Ellie until she is 18, they can get a quick divorce, and everything will be fine. She can stay in her house, he can stay on at the ranch, its a quick win for everyone.

Except his girlfriend. And for Ellie's high school boyfriend. And life. Life always seems to happen, and it happens to these poor two. Plenty of angst. But all real world stuff. The author didn't need to make things up, everything that happens, is totally legit "this really happens" stuff. Well done.

This is a clean story. A few cuss words here and there, very sporadic. The lack of erotic is not a turn off, however, for this story. It is said repeatedly how young Ellie is. She is a 16 and then 17 year old high school girl. Struggling to grow up. Learning maturity far faster than her peers, due to her situation. Jake is 10 years older than her. He is disgusted with the thought that anyone would think he was sleeping with an underage girl. Nice guy, great moral compass. A real winner of a cowboy.

I eagerly await reading book 2.
It's difficult to write a book like this, a 16 year old girl marrying an older man so that she can stay out of foster care. At some point, you expect it to get icky with inappropriate feelings, but it didn't. I loved it so much, that as soon as I read it, I got the second book - read book 2 and immediately got book 3.

The feelings are authentic. I love that Jake is such a guy but also a good man, and Ellie is portrayed as an authentic teenager, who wants to date and go to prom, but is married, which makes her Weird Ellie. Jake also has a girl friend already, who is less than thrilled about the situation.

None of the problems or emotions were sugar coated. This book was incredibly well done. I think breaking it into different short books worked for it. 4 1/2 stars
A pretty good story line but a freakin’ cliff hanger. I won’t be buying ANY more books by this author.
