I LOVE books! Supposedly I am supposed to love shoes...but, I LOVE books, and this one is at the top of my love list. As an early elementary teacher the simple text of this book shares some very strong insights to the power of both digital literacy tools and standard print. I love the multiple meaning words thrown around to further impact students vocabulary in a fun, interactive way. I can totally see my students acting this out - props and all. I can't wait to share it with them.

It is an absolutely adorable and clever book however it is not really one I would read to a pre-k child or even early elementary - like at first I thought it would be. But the idea of one of the characters being a jackass fits an older audience - at least in my opinion. I have great grandkids in that younger category who love to read and I just passed it on to one of my daughters who teaches mid-high and high school kids. They will appreciate the humor and the message in it and they will not be learning to use any NEW names to call each other either.
Oh yes - the vendor is just fine. everything arrived in good time and excellent condition etc.
This is a wonderful book. Great pictorials and the actual story was wonderful. We bought it for our four year old Grand-daughter. She loved the pictures AND laughed as hard as we did at the content! I would suggest this book to anyone! My husband and I are both well into our 50"s and we loved the delightful story of the monkey explaining the value of a BOOK to a jackass. If there is one thing I do have an issue with is the term "jackass" used in the book. It did cause quite a bit of explaining that I was not using a "bad word". I am guessing that is just one more thing our grand-daughter got out of this book, an education on the differences in some farm animals!
Literally bought this book for the last couple pages.
I'm a mom and a reading intervention teacher. My son is a very bright (and sarcastic and into wordplay) 7yo. This was a perfect read aloud book for him to snicker at by the end. It also demonstrates how some now 'bad words' were once innocuous.
A SUPER BOOK, EXPLAINNING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EBOOKS, READING ON LINE, LISTENNING TOA BOOK ON A DVD, ETC..... TO HOW MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE THE EXPERIENCE IS TO HOLD A BOOK TO READ.
☆ HOWEVER, THANK GOODNESS FOR TECHNOLOGY ALSO, IT HAS ITS GREAT BENEFITS AS WELL. FOR THE BLIND, FOR LISTENNING TO A BOOK WHILE DRIVING, FOR STUDYING, ETC...
IYS A BOOK IS JUST TRYING TO KEEP BOOKS REAL & OVERALL, NOT DIGITAL. -)
This book is great. I teach my students the importance of books and having the pages in your hand. This also gets them visually seeing words in the technology world that they hear every day, but may not see. It also does a nice job of teaching them a little vocabulary that they may not know is not always considered a swear word.
Also a great gift for a retiring librarian. (I bought 2)
This is such a cute and clever book. My kids think it's hilarious! It does use the word jackass (in the proper context), so if that doesn't seem appropriate to you then you might want to pass this up. I didn't find it offensive though.
This is a hilarious book.
As for people who think a 4 or 5 year old child will not "get" it...
I have 5 year old twins. They are familiar with computers, they can use my iPad with greater familiarity than my wife, and they get almost all the jokes. Even, after seeing the Muppet Treasure Island, recognizing the characters in the excerpt the Monkey reads to the Donkey.
Now, after a year of school, one of the twins is reading easy books to himself at night, this is one of the books he keeps going back to.
Even the slightly rude (to some people) joke on the final page... just explain a "jackass" is a word for a male donkey. The illustrations clearly show that the character is a donkey, therefore the second meaning in the dictionary should be a joke for the grown up present. It shouldn't prevent a child enjoying the story.
This is a book my kids love, and one I have purchased as a gift for someone else's child as well.
